The most effective patterns put 70 to 80 percent of shot into a 30-inch circle at whatever range you’re patterning. For example, average shooting is done at 20 to 30 yards. Then, you will probably find that a more open choke, such as, IC will provide you the best pattern. However, every shotgun will pattern differently depending on shot size and barrel length.
